Changes in the programme of Tuesday’s Misteria Paschalia Festival concert

Friday 12 April 2019

Filippo Mineccia dedicated almost a year to the preparations for the concert Arias and Overtures from Metastasio’s Passion of Christ, scheduled for Tuesday, 16 April 2019. We are sorry to inform you that due to acute laryngitis the countertenor will not be able to sing during the 16th edition of the Misteria Paschalia Festival in Krakow. As a result, the concert programme has also changed. On the other hand, the outstanding contralto Sonia Prina, known to the Krakow audience, has accepted the invitation to the festival and will perform with {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna at the Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria.

Sometimes fate can be extremely malicious and with one gesture, undoes even the hardest work – Filippo Mineccia, suffering from laryngitis, will not be able to perform during the concert on Holy Tuesday at the Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria. A worthy substitute for the countertenor will be Sonia Prina, well known to Misteria Paschalia and Opera Rara audiences, as well as enthusiasts of early music. With her excellent technique and unique timbre, the artist is one of the most famous contemporary voices specialising in music of the past centuries.

For the performance in Krakow, Sonia Prina and Martyna Pastuszka, the artistic director of {oh!} Orkiestra Historyczna, have prepared a new programme, the lion's share of which is based on Pietro Metastasio’s Passion libretto and enriched with Antonio Vivaldi's Stabat Mater, as well as instrumental pieces by Johann Georg Pisendel, a friend of the Red Priest, whose works, although composed mainly in Dresden, bears strong traces of Italian late Baroque music. The artists have decided not to duplicate Filippo Mineccia’s original idea – out of respect for the singer’s long work on the preparation of the repertoire and in the hope that it would be possible to perform and record it in Krakow at another time; they tried to preserve the spirit and drama of the original idea at the same time.

At the same time we would like to inform you that all the people who purchased tickets for the concert on 16 April at the Church of Saint Catherine of Alexandria, as well as pass holders, can attend the concert (tickets and passes purchased before the change remain valid) or return their tickets and passes at the point of sale.
