Elizabeth Rumsey
Elizabeth Rumsey studied in Sydney (recorder with Howard Oberg and viol with Patrice Connelly) and in Basel (fiddle with Randall Cook and viol with Rebeka Rusò). As a specialist in the music of the 15th to 17th centuries, she has a particular affinity for ensemble and chamber music.
She performs regularly with several viol consorts (Musicke and Mirth, The Earle his Viols, Hathor Consort) and plays in other specialised instrumental ensembles including a broken consort. In addition to consort music, she plays fiddle, Renaissance and Baroque viol, and lirone in various ensembles in Europe, North America and Australia (among others Per-Sonat, Le Miroir de Musique, Private Musicke, Profeti della Quinta, Huelgas Ensemble, Leones) and is on numerous CD and radio recordings. She also enjoys playing the High Baroque repertoire of cantatas and passions at Christmas and Easter, as well as new compositions for historical instruments. With her own ensembles Compass and Van Eyck Project she explores respectively the viol consort repertoire, and the instrumental interpretation of chansons from the 15th century.
