Laura Ozymko is a French painter born in 1991 in Compiègne, currently living and working in Reims. As a self-taught artist, she developed a recognisable visual language in which drawing and painting are combined with inspirations drawn from art history, particularly the Greco-Roman antiquity and its heritage.

Her work grows out of a reflection on the aesthetics of classical sculpture, which she transforms into a modern, intensely emotional visual form. She centres her interest in the human body – its beauty, fragility and the tension between strength and vulnerability. Through her compositions, she tackles the theme of identity and the psyche, bringing out themes of introspection, phobias and emotional memory.

Her works are distinguished by a texture that evokes the minerality of marble and limestone and expressive colour contrasts in which light and shadow model the form. The subtlety and precision of the elaboration give the figures depicted an almost sculptural presence, suspended in time and space. This search makes her work timeless, situating it at the intersection of tradition and modernity, and subtly refreshes the classical canon, inscribing it in contemporary sensibilities.

A significant project in Laura Ozymko’s oeuvre is the Fabularis series presented from 2023 to 2026 at the Musée Saint-Remi. Within this series, the artist engaged in a creative dialogue with historical textiles and religious narratives, demonstrating her ability to reinterpret cultural heritage in a contemporary way through the language of contemporary art.

Laura Ozymko’s work exemplifies a challenging and sensitive approach to figurative art, in which ancient heritage and contemporary expression are intertwined to form a coherent, deepened and symbolically resonant whole.
