In Dietrich Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu nostri, the suffering is presented as a multidimensional experience, where corporeality and spirituality intertwine in a subtle, almost tangible way. Each of the seven cantatas of the cycle focuses on a different part of the body of Jesus, not to narrate the Passion directly, but to show the spiritual significance arising from the engagement with what is most human, fragile, and fleeting. The trio sonatas set between the cycle’s movements provide moments of light and respite, however they do not eliminate darkness, but allow us to understand it and to feel its weight. Voces Suaves and Gli Incogniti bring out contrasts between simplicity and complexity, harmony and dissonance, the subtle tension and the expressive gesture. In this music, suffering, memory and reflection are intertwined in a way that enables the listener to perceive sound as a space for introspection, philosophical observation, and spiritual involvement. Each voice, phrase, and chord creates a network of meaning where the sacred and the human are continuously intertwined.

Gli Incogniti is supported by the DRAC Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the Region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine and the Department of Gironde. This tour is also supported by the Centre national de la musique (CNM).
