Bach’s St John Passion intertwines narrative and reflection, allowing music to convey both dramatic events as well as the profound spiritual experience. The composer constructs a network of voices, choirs and instruments where dramatic tension and contemplation unfold in parallel. Arias, recitatives and choral passages give each character a distinct color and significance, while counterpoint and harmony introduce subtle tensions that deepen the listener’s engagement. The Wrocław Baroque Orchestra with NFM choirs brings out work’s dramaturgy, precision, and emotional depth, showing that the Passion becomes an intellectual and sensory experience. Immersed in the music, the listeners can empathise with suffering, understand its consequences, and discover the spiritual dimension of events in which the sacred and the human are inseparably intertwined. Each fragment reveals internal logic, harmonic beauty and psychological subtlety, inviting reflection on transience, human fragility, and the meaning of sacrifice.
