Alkymia
Rather than layering styles, the ensemble offers a journey of transmutation and retelling: a historically informed interpretation that enhances our enjoyment of the blend between early sources and the vibrant, stirring sensibility of contemporary music.
Voices, period instruments, spatial settings, and, in many cases, electronics are pushed beyond their usual roles through innovative techniques, arrangements, and new compositions, aiming to establish a direct and tangible connection with the listener.
Traditional and popular music also feature in Alkymia’s programmes, offering another form of auditory tribute to diversity and humanity’s rich musical heritage.
Founded in 2014, Alkymia is accredited by the DRAC Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, supported by the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region and the city of Lyon. The ensemble runs a project at Les Grandes Voisines, a social ‘third place’ in Lyon. Alkymia also receives support from Spedidam, Centre national de la musique, Adami, Maison de la Musique Contemporaine, and SACEM – Société des auteurs, compositeurs et éditeurs de musique. The ensemble is a member of Égalité H/F AURA and FEVIS – Fédération des Ensembles Vocaux et Instrumentaux Spécialisés.
