With three Diapason d'or behind him and the esteem in which he is held by his colleagues and audiences, Diego Ares has established himself as one of the most influential harpsichordists of his generation.

He studied piano with Aleksandras Jurgelionis and Aldona Dvarionaitė, and harpsichord with Pilar Cancio, Richard Egarr, Genoveva Gálvez and Carmen Schibli. 

He has given recitals at the Roque d’Anthéron Piano Festival, the Abbaye de Royaumont, the Quincena Musical Donostiarra, the Iturbi Festival, Festival de Santander, Festival de Granada, the Utrecht Early Music Festival, the Bach Festival in Tokyo, the Davos Festival, Musiq’3 (Brussels), the Oslo Chamber Music Festival, among the others. As a soloist, he has collaborated with the Geneva Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestre symphonique de Bretagne, the Chamber Orchestra of Granada, the Netherlands Bach Society Orchestra. His career as a soloist is combined with that of chamber musician, collaborating with artists such as Laura Andriani, Richard Egarr, Pierre Hantaï, Hille Perl, Rachel Podger, Ignacio Prego, Shunske Sato, Maurice Steger and Lina Tur Bonet.  

He has recorded for Columna Música (two harpsichord concertos by J. S. Bach), Pan Classics (works by Padre Antonio Soler and Domenico Scarlatti), Harmonia Mundi (unpublished sonatas by Soler and the Goldberg Variations by J. S. Bach), Ibs-Classical (the complete harpsichord works by Sebastián de Albero – to be published) and Mirare (sonatas for harpsichord and viola da gamba by J. S. Bach with Margaux Blanchard). He has also collaborated in the project All of Bach, and in the City Light Symphony Orchestra’s recording on John Williams, playing the harpsichord part of The Adventures of Tintin (Prospero label).  

His records have been enthusiastically received by the critics (three times Exceptional by Scherzo, three Diapason d’or, “Maestro” by Pianiste, Preis der Deutsche Schallplattenkiritk, Choc by Classica magazine).  

He has taught at the Conservatory of Trossingen (Germany), the Summer Academy of Gstaad (Switzerland), the Conservatory of Geneva and the Summer Academy of Grajal de Campos (Spain).
