Elsa Frank
Elsa Frank studied the recorder and historical oboes at the Conservatoire de Strasbourg, then at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis where she obtained her concert diplomas. She has been teaching at the Conservatoire de Caen since 1998. A member of the ensemble Doulce Mémoire (directed by Denis Raisin-Dadre), she is also invited by numerous ensembles, including Le Poème Harmonique (Vincent Dumestre), Le Concert Spirituel (Hervé Niquet), Les musiciens de St Julien (François Lazarevitch), Les Ombres, L’Achéron, among the others. In addition to extensive work on the baroque oboe, Elsa Frank has rediscovered other lesser-known reed instruments today alongside Jérémie Papasergio, such as the French cromorne (not to be confused with the older Krumhorn), bombardine, bassanello, etc. These instruments, brilliantly played in concerts, thus surpass their current status as “curiosities”. Her rich discography places her at the forefront of current oboists/flutists, ranging from Dufay to Mozart, including Bach’s Brandenburg concertos.
