Geoffrey Lawrence Carey
Geoffrey Lawrence Carey was born in Hollywood. His father, a film actor, told him he was too ugly to work as an actor in Hollywood, the citadel of beauty at the time. So Geoffrey left on a scholarship to try his luck in France, more specifically in Paris.
He entered the Conservatoire national supérieur d’art dramatique (CNSAD) as a foreign student for 3 years with Antoine Vitez. He started out with Annie Girardot in Madame Marguerite at the Théâtre de Montparnasse (directed by Jorge Lavelli) and from there, a lot of theatre followed with Claude Regy, Georges Wilson, Roger Planchon, Luc Bondy, Hubert Colas, Bruno Meysatt, Marc Lainè, Ludovic Lagarde, Marie Louise Bischofberger Bondy, Dan Jemmet, Richard Brunel, Pascal Dusapin, Pascal Rambert, Thomas Jolly, Irina Brook, Régine Chopinot, Gregory Motton, Joris Lacoste and Benjamin Lazar for Heptameron at the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord.
He has also worked in films with Wim Wenders (L’état de choses), Raoul Ruiz (Le Territoire), Leos Carax (Annette, Holy Motors), Luc Moullet (Le fantôme de Longstaff), Luc Besson (Le grand bleu), Vincent Dieutre. Recently, he worked in Italy with Irina Brook on Chekhov (The Seagull) in Italian and a performance installation in Venice (The House of Us).
