Ilia Mazurov was born in 1991 in Krasnoyarsk (Russia) and graduated from Krasnoyarsk College of Arts in academic choir conducting. In the years 2009–2014, he studied conducting in St. Petersburg Conservatory (the class of Valentin Nesterov) and participated in vocal master classes of Elena Obraztsova.

As a bass-baritone, Ilia has performed parts in operas by Charpentier, Lully, Rameau, Monteverdi, Mozart, Rodríguez de Hita, in various cantatas and oratorio works (Mozart’s Requiem, Magnificat, J. S. Bach’s Mass in B minor and Matthaeus-Passion, Haynd’s Die Schöpfung, Purcell’s Te Deum etc.) and also in chamber music (vocal works of Schubert, Schumann etc.). In the years 2015–2016, he performed the main part in Martín y Soler’s opera Gore-Bogatyr-Kosometovich (with libretto by Catherine the Great) and participated in the reconstruction of the first Russian-language opera Cephalus and Prokris (music Francesco Araja, libretto Alexander Sumarokov) at the festival “Early Music” in St. Petersburg, directed by Andrey Reshetin. He also performed in this opera in Bolshoi Theatre (Moscow, 2017). In 2017, he took part in a concert performance of Dmitri Bortniansky’s opera Le Faucon and was invited to Pietro Antonio Cesti International Singing Competiton for Baroque Opera at the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik, Austria. In 2019, he performed the role of Celenus in Lully’s Atys at the Hermitage Theatre (St. Petersburg). He joined the ensemble formed by Andrew Parrott in the frames of the “Early Music” festival in St. Petersburg. In 2021, Ilia was a semifinalist of the Froville Baroque Competition and the Concours Corneille in Rouen.

The same year brought him roles in Carissimi’s, Charpentier’s and Rossi’s oratorios, as a member of the Eeemerging+ programme. The concerts were shown also at the Festival d’Ambronay in 2022.

Ilia has performed with many orchestras and ensembles including the Soloists of Catherine the Great, Il Barocco concertante, The Pocket Symphony Soloists Ensemble, Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Synergy Orchestra, and musicians: Andrew Parrott, Geoffroy Jourdain, Michael Chance, Deborah York, Isabelle Poulenard, Valery Gergiev, Andrey Reshetin, Thierry Peteau, Jérôme Correas, Maria Krestinskaya, Leo Kraemer, Nazar Kozhukhar.
