Julián Rincón
Julián Rincón is a musician deeply passionate about European early music and the musical traditions of Latin America. A versatile artist, he explores a wide repertoire of historical wind instruments, such as the recorder, Renaissance and Baroque bassoon and Renaissance oboe, as well as traditional instruments like the quena, siku, and Colombian gaitas.
Originally from Cali, Colombia, Julián began his musical training at the conservatory in his hometown under the guidance of David Gómez. Quickly making a name for himself, he took on multiple roles as a soloist, ensemble musician, teacher, and composer for theatre. In 2014, he moved to France to further his knowledge of early music, studying with renowned musicians such as Sébastien Marq (recorder) and Jérémie Papasergio (double reed instruments), while also benefiting from the invaluable advice of Pierre Hamon and Denis Raisin-Dadre.
Between 2017 and 2021, Julián developed a research project titled La route de la chirimía as part of the MIMA Master’s programme (Master Interprétation des Musiques Anciennes, practice and research) under the direction of Théodora Psychoyou. This work, which explores the connections between European and Latin American musical traditions, marked a key milestone in his career and strengthened his mastery of double reed instruments.
Today, Julián Rincón collaborates with renowned ensembles such as Poséidon, Into the Winds, Doulce Mémoire, Le Poème Harmonique, Marguerite Louise, Clématis, Les Épopées, and Alia Mens. Alongside his performing career, he shares his passion by teaching the recorder and introducing students to historical double reed instruments at the Conservatorie de Boulogne-Billancourt.
Among his recent recordings are Fastes de la Grand Écurie (Syntagma Amici/Giourdina, 2022), Utrique Fidelis – Vendée traditionnelle et baroque (Ensemble Les Présences, January 2023), Armide (Le Poème Harmonique, May 2023), and La Naissance de Versailles (Consort Musica Vera, October 2023).
