Roland ten Weges
Roland ten Weges is a French bass whose artistic identity is shaped by two major affinities: baroque music and the vast polyphonic repertoire. Trained in baroque performance practice at the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles, he later broadened his education with operatic studies, allowing him to merge stylistic precision with vocal theatricality on prestigious French and international stages.
His work in the baroque domain regularly brings him to collaborate with Le Poème Harmonique under the direction of Vincent Dumestre. With the ensemble, he has performed at the philharmonic halls of Hamburg and Cologne, the Château de Versailles, as well as renowned festivals such as Misteria Paschalia Festival in Krakow, Utrecht and Vézelay. He will make his debut at the Barbican Centre with the ensemble next year, and has appeared on their recording Monteverdi – Testamento awarded with Diapason d’Or.
Roland ten Weges has also taken part in several operatic productions with Le Concert d’Astrée (Staatsoper Berlin, operas in Lille and Dijon), and has appeared as a soloist in Charpentier’s Beatus Vir at the Opéra de Lille. He collaborates additionally with Ensemble Marguerite Louise, La Chapelle Harmonique, and Ensemble Amaranthe.
Polyphonic repertoire occupies a central place in his musical life. He performs it both a cappella and with intimate instrumental forces, singing with Hemiolia, Six voix dans la nuit, Les Meslanges, and the Entheos Ensemble.
In the choral repertoire, he is heard with renowned ensembles such as Les Éléments (Théâtre du Capitole, Festival de Saint-Denis) and Dulci Jubilo (Via Aeterna at Mont-Saint-Michel, Sylvanès).
