Viktor Shapovalov
Russian baritone Viktor Shapovalov was born in the city of Kurgan, in South Urals. Graduated as a solo pianist, Viktor always had a passion for vocals, and during his studies worked on developing his voice, taking private lessons with different vocal masters. After five years of work in a position of Ural state opera choir singer, he entered the musicAeterna choir of Perm State Opera, led by Teodor Currentzis, becoming one of the soloists of the choir, and also performing solo parts in repertoire productions of Perm State Opera. Being a part of musicAeterna, Viktor took part in many collaborations with famous orchestras, such as Mahler Chamber Orchestra, B’Rock Orchestra, Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, Le Poème Harmonique, Freiburger Barockorchester and others, singing at major concert venues of Russia and Europe under conduction of Vincent Dumestre, Raphael Pichon, René Jacobs, Teodor Currentzis and others. In 2019, for the role of Protée from co-production of Perm Opera and Opéra royal de Versailles (Le Poème Harmonique, Vincent Dumestre and Benjamin Lazar) Viktor was nominated for “Golden mask” Russian Theatrical Award in the “best male singer in opera” category. His repertoire includes music of different times and styles, from renaissance up to contemporary music.
