Italian tenor Alessandro Giangrande graduated with the highest marks from the Conservatorio Nino Rota in Monopoli in the singing class of Serafina Tuzzi. He continues his musical education by studying violin with Francesco d’Orazio and taking part in Baroque singing classes led by Maria Cristina Kiehr, Roberta Invernizzi and Paul Esswood.

He performed the title role in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo staged by Trisha Brown and conducted René Jacobs at the Festival in Aix-en-Provence. He took also part in L’incoronazione di Poppea under the baton of Leonard García Alarcón in Ambronay and at the MITO Settembre Musica.

The works by Monteverdi play an important role in Alessandro Giangrande’s repertoire: he sung in L’Orfeo also at the Opéra de Lausanne under musical direction of Ottavio Dantone and in stage direction of Robert Carsen. In 2017, he participated as Apollo in a L’Orfeo world tour led by Leonard García Alarcón – with performances at the Operadagen in Rotterdam, the BOZAR hall in Brussels, Paris, Ambronay, Opéra Royal de Liège, Teatro Colon in Buenos Aires, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

He has frequently cooperated as a soloist with Jordi Savall and La Capella Reial de Catalunya in a project devoted to Monteverdi prepared for the BarockTage at the Staatsoper Berlin. The other vital cooperation with L’Arpeggiata and group’s leader Christina Pluhar allowed him to participate in critically acclaimed project exploring the Baroque music of Naples.

He regularly appears with Concerto Italiano, I Virtuosi Italiani, Łódź Philharmonic Orchestra and Accademia Montis Regalis. He has received invitations to numerous festivals in Italy and France (Sinfonia en Périgord, Ambronay), Vienna, Kraków, Utrecht, Bucarest (George Enescu Festival) and New York.
