Jan Jakub Lipiński
Jan Jakub Lipiński’s passion for violin making began when he was 21. In 2014, he started learning the craft in the workshop of the Polish luthier Krzysztof Pawlikowski. In the same year, he enrolled in the Violin Making Department at the I.J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, he completed a five-month apprenticeship in Jan Bartoś’s workshop in Paris.
In 2018–2019, he worked for Jacek Wesołowski, a maker of baroque instruments and restorer based in Gdańsk.
In 2019, Jan Jakub won a gold medal at the International Włodzimierz Kamiński Violin Making Competition, where he also received awards for best workmanship and best sound. At the beginning of 2020, he was awarded a silver medal at the International Baroque Violin Making Competition in Malta. In the same year, he graduated with honours from the Academy of Music in Poznań, receiving his master’s degree. In 2021, he won a bronze medal at the International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Making Competition and was awarded the “Młoda Polska” scholarship for young artists.
From 2021 to 2023, he worked for Piotr Pielaszek. He is also a board member of the Polish Union of Violin Makers. Since 2024, he has been teaching violin making at the Academy of Music in Poznań.
He makes instruments based on his own original model as well as on the Golden Period Stradivari. Since 2018, he has specialised in reconstructions of historical instruments. He lives and works in Poznań, Poland.
