Matteo Bellotto
The Italian bass Matteo Bellotto obtained his diploma in clarinet and music education from the Conservatorio di Bologna. Then he decided to dedicate himself to singing studies at the Istituto musicale pareggiato Orazio Vecchi in Modena under the guidance of Maestra Luisa Vannini.
Matteo Bellotto focuses on the Baroque repertoire and has collaborated with such conductors as Rinaldo Alessandrini, Gabriel Garrido, Diego Fasolis, Filippo Maria Bressan, Enrico Gatti and Claudio Cavina, with whose ensemble La Venexiana he made three tours in the USA and two in Japan.
In 2007, Matteo Bellotto recorded and performed several times the role of Pluto in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, at the Lufthansa Festival of Baroque Music in London, Auditorio Nacional de Música in Madrid, and in Regensburg and Melk. In 2008, he debuted in the role of Seneca in L’incoronazione di Poppea at the Festival di Herne and performed Lutheran Masses by Johann Sebastian Bach under the direction of Gustav Leonhardt. He loves working with the Orchestra e Coro della Radio Svizzera, with whom he had the opportunity to perform as a soloist in Vespers by Carlo Donato Cossoni, the opera Agnese by Ferdinando Paer and the opera Ercole amante by Francesco Cavalli.
Matteo Bellotto regularly participates in major European Baroque music festivals such as the Festival Monteverdi di Cremona, festivals of Ambronay, Bruges, Antwerp, Wrocław, as well as in Buenos Aires, Tokyo. He has recorded oratorios and sacred music by Antonio Vivaldi, Alessandro Stradella, Claudio Monteverdi, Bernardo Pasquini, Francesco Corbetta, Heinrich Schütz, Antonio Brunelli for various labels including Opus111, Glossa, Symphonia, Tactus and Brilliant Classics.
Matteo Bellotto is also dedicated to contemporary music. He has sung works by Gavin Bryars premiered with the Swiss ensemble Vox Altera, Les Noces by Igor Stravinsky, the role of Pilate in the Passio Christi by Giancarlo Facchinetti, the role of Superman in the opera Mister Me by Luca Mosca and recently a part in the opera Josef K. – Il processo continua by Francesco Hoch and the opera Gesualdo Considered as a Murderer by Luca Francesconi.
In the current season Matteo Bellotto is going to take part in the production of L’Orfeo at the Teatro La Scala and in Seattle, USA. He currently lives in Parma, Italy.
