Recognised for her great musicality and rich vocal timbre, mezzo-soprano Victoire Bunel has just graduated from the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse in Paris where she received first prize in singing. After studying piano, her artistic sensibility was developed at the Maîtrise de Radio France. Then, she joined the Département Supérieur pour Jeunes Chanteurs at the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Paris, where she passed her Diplôme d’Etudes Musicales (musical studies diploma) with distinction, unanimously awarded by the jury. In 2009, Victoire Bunel also graduated from the Sorbonne with a degree in musicology.

The young mezzo-soprano is interested in a wide range of repertoire. She has given recitals of French mélodies and Lieder with piano at the Wigmore Hall (Crying Out Loud cycle), the Théâtre impérial de Compiègne, the Petit Palais in Paris, and also accompanied by an orchestra, notably under the direction of Emmanuelle Haïm. Recently, she has been invited to the Gaëlle Le Gallic’s France Musique radio show Génération jeunes interprètes with pianist Sarah Ristorcelli with whom she won special prize at the 8th Concours international d’interprétation de la Mélodie française in Toulouse. She was a participant at the Udo Reinemann International Masterclass in Brussels where she worked among other with Anne Sofie von Otter, Julius Drake and Dietrich Henschel.

 

With a passion for acting, Victoire Bunel has also developed strong operatic skills. In 2012, during her residence at Royaumont Abbey, she made her stage debut in the role of Abel in Scarlatti’s Cain with Stéphane Fuget. In 2013, she was Valetto in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea in Paris, Miss Page in Die lustigen Weiber von Windsor by Otto Nicolaï, Mélisande in Pélleas et Mélisande by Debussy in Paris, Pallas in Hélène by Saint-Saëns, Martha in Faust by Gounod with the Royal Academy of Music in London, recently Jenny in The Threepenny Opera by Kurt Weill at the Shoreditch Town Hall in London, Speranza in L’Orfeo by Monteverdi at the festival de Beaune, Théone in Phaéton by Lully in Perm (Russia) and at the Opéra Royal de Versailles (France) with Le Poème Harmonique (conducted by Vincent Dumestre, staged by Benjamin Lazar) and Paula in Le Miroir d’Alice by Thomas Nguyen at the Opéra de Reims, as well as in Vincent Vittoz’ show Les 10 Minutes.

 

Recently, she has appeared at the Philharmonie de Paris in three different concerts: with the Ensemble intercontemporain in Ligeti’s Requiem and Grand Macabre, with the Orchestre de Chambre Nouvelle-Aquitaine in 3 poèmes de Mallarmé by Ravel and with the Orchestre de Paris in Manfred by Schumann with Daniel Harding.

 

Victoire Bunel will soon sing in a Bizet concert with the Opéra National de Bordeaux, followed by a Paris recital with Sarah Ristorcelli and role of Siegrune in Die Walküre by Wagner with Opéra National de Bordeaux (conducted by Paul Daniel). Then, she will present extracts from Les Nuits d’été by Berlioz at the Halle aux Grains in Toulouse during a concert of a tribute series to Nijinski.
